Find a comfortable position, lying down or sitting back... Let your eyes gently close... Begin by noticing the natural rhythm of your breath... The simple in... and out... No need to change it... Just become aware of its gentle flow... Now, let’s deepen the breath a little... Inhale slowly through your nose... and exhale even more slowly... Letting the out-breath be longer... And at the end of the exhale... a brief pause... Inhale slowly... Exhale longer... and pause... Good... Place a hand gently on your belly... Feel it rise on your next inhale... And fall on your exhale... Breathing into this soft center... Releasing any effort from the day... Now, let the breath expand into your chest... Feel your ribcage gently widen... And on the exhale, feel it soften and settle... As if releasing a gentle sigh... Bring your awareness to your shoulders and neck... Any tension held here from the week... can begin to soften... On your next exhale, imagine it melting away... Letting your shoulders drop... your neck lengthen... From this point of release... allow a wave of softening to travel down through your body... Your arms and hands grow heavy and relaxed... Your spine settles... Your hips and legs soften into the support beneath you... Releasing the doing of the week... and arriving into the being of this holy rest... In this stillness... remember the promise of this day... "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Let this sacred pause be your coming... Your surrender... Your rest... For the next few moments... rest in this quiet... Your breath, soft and easy... Your body, at peace... The work is complete... The day is done... When you are ready... gently bring your awareness back to the room... Wiggle your fingers and toes... And carry this sense of Sabbath peace with you into your night's rest.
