Let this evening be a gentle closing of the Lord’s Day… a time to lay down the sacred rest… and prepare for the week ahead. Find a comfortable position… sitting or lying down… and allow your eyes to close softly. Begin by simply noticing your breath… the natural rhythm of life within you… no need to change it… just feel the air moving in… and moving out… Now, gently deepen that breath… take a slow, full inhale through your nose… and let your exhale be even longer… releasing through your mouth… and at the end… a quiet pause… feel the stillness… Inhale slowly… exhale longer… and pause… Bring your hands to rest gently on your belly… as you breathe in, feel your belly rise… as you breathe out, feel it soften and fall… This is the breath of trust… the breath that knows you are held… even as this day of rest comes to an end. Let the breath expand now into your chest… feel your rib cage widen with the inhale… and soften completely with the exhale… Release any lingering sense of obligation… or thoughts of tomorrow’s tasks… With each exhale, let the peace of this holy day settle more deeply into your bones. Bring your awareness to your shoulders and neck… areas that often carry the weight of the week… Inhale here… and as you exhale, imagine a gentle warmth melting any tension… letting it drip away… “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Let that promise soften you now. Allow this softening to travel down through your body… your arms and hands becoming heavy and relaxed… your spine lengthening and settling… your hips, legs, and feet… all releasing downward… as if you are laying every care… every memory of the day… upon an altar of peace… Let your entire body be supported… completely and fully. Rest here in this deep stillness… in the quiet aftermath of grace… There is nothing to do… nothing to hold… only to be… bathed in the tranquility of the evening… When you are ready, begin to gently deepen your breath once more… wiggle your fingers and toes… and as you open your eyes, carry this quiet peace with you… into your night and into the new week. Amen.
