Let the day settle around you... Feel the weight of your body in this chair... or on this bed... Notice the rhythm of your breath, just as it is... In... and out... This is the Lord’s Day... a day set apart for rest and remembrance... Perhaps the challenge of truly *stopping* has followed you into this evening... The mind still humming with unfinished lists... or the subtle pressure to make the day “holy enough”... Let all of that be here... and let it be okay... Now, gently deepen your breath... A slow, soft inhale through your nose... And a longer, releasing exhale through your mouth... And in the pause after the exhale... a moment of pure rest... Again... inhale slowly... exhale fully... and rest in the quiet space between... Place a hand gently on your belly... Breathe into that hand... let your belly soften and rise... And as you exhale, feel it fall... With each breath, you are letting go of the day’s doing... and returning to simply being... Now let the breath fill your chest... Feel your ribs expand gently to the sides... And on the exhale, feel your chest soften and settle... Releasing any tightness you carried here... Bring your awareness to your shoulders and neck... On your next inhale, draw them up slightly toward your ears... And as you exhale, let them melt down... heavy and soft... Releasing the postures of work and worry... Let this softening move down through your body now... Through your arms and hands... fingers relaxing... Down your spine... each vertebra feeling supported... Through your hips and legs... all the way to your soles... A wave of release... from the crown of your head to the tips of your toes... In this stillness, you are simply held... The striving of the week, the expectations of the day... they can fall away now... “Be still, and know that I am God.” In this quiet, there is no need to perform or produce... only to rest, and be known... For the next few moments, rest in this quiet awareness... Breathing gently... held in the peace of this evening... Whenever you are ready, gently bring movement back to your fingers and toes... And carry this sense of settled peace with you into your night’s rest...
